It's really weird realising I wasn't online at all in December and January. I really didn't mean to drop off the face of the planet or stop updating and I'm really sorry about that. I know how frustrating it is when someone stops updating in the middle of a WiP. Can't say much about it, the holiday season was crazy and I went with it, landing myself in hospital for two weeks in January. I hate being hospitalised, and its no joy ride for my family either course it does tend to send everyone's emotions spiralling higher. The fallout wasn't too awful this time, but it did end up with me moving, not that my doctors are happy about that, but I think a change of pace and scenery might do me some good. So major move number two in the span of a few months is finished. I'm settling in and just got internet service today (yay!).  I'm 1,700 miles from my last home, nervous and apprehensive, but hopeful. Now to get into a groove, get back to writing, catch up on my reading, and re-housebreak the puppy!

My baby brother called again today. Remember that scene from Courage Under Fire where Lou Diamond Phillips commits suicide by camaro? Yeah. Life shouldn't imitate art in somethings...it turns out that the base with the highest number of suicides has claimed another victim. He wasn't sure yesterday what had happened, they only knew that the boy's car was hit in the train crossing, now they're saying it was on purpose. So this makes three guys from my brother's squad in a year, and D is devastated. My heart is breaking for him. I hate this and that there's so little I can do. My boys rarely cry, but D was sobbing. I don't think I've heard him cry this hard since he was very small.

I miss the days when I could sing his fears and sadness away, when he'd raise his arms and cuddle in my lap and we'd make it all go away for a little while. A phone call seems an anaemic and whithered comfort in comparison. I can't wrap my boys up and protect them from hurt and sorrow anymore, they're grown men who've been to war, who've killed and been wounded, who've seen children and their comrades blown apart, but I wish I could.
